Optimize Your Twitter Stream Using UnTweeps.com
A couple of weeks back I wrote an article about how all Twitter users could (and should) clean up their follower stream by removing inactive accounts. I invite you to read this entry to fully understand my reasons.
In that piece I recommended use of Twitter-Friends.com. The TwitterFriends service provides many features and is definitely worth a moment of your time, but I don’t think it’s unfair to say that the process of having to remove inactive accounts manually yourself is both laborious and quite dull.
Enter UnTweeps.com.

UnTweeps does just one thing, and it does it very well – it allows you to quickly locate and remove, en masse, inactive, or as they term it ‘stale’ Twitter accounts.
You can log on to the site with your Twitter username or password or, as is preferable, via Twitter’s Oauth system. Once inside, you can tweak the service to scan for users who have not updated in 7, 14, 30, 60, 90 or 180 days – my recommendation, as in my previous article, is 30 – and UnTweeps will quickly and efficiently return you a list.
Once this is done, simply scroll down the page, unchecking any users you do not wish to unfollow (all are checked by default), and then click on the ‘Unfollow Selected Tweeps’ button.
Voila. Isn’t that elegant?
Indeed it is; the site, meanwhile, is somewhat of a monstrosity on the eyes. Too frequently we are seeing this with Twitter developers – fantastically useful products wrapped up in soiled brown paper and frayed string. Guys, looks certainly are not everything, but they count for something.
Still, UnTweep.com’s ease-of-use and remarkably fast and efficient interface gives it a strong recommendation from me. With a bit of spit and polish, I predict this becoming an essential bookmark for many on the network.

Roseli A. Bakar’s last blog post..My Tweet On Twitter
I haven’t updated forever, as I follow several ‘leaders’ to keep across stuff. If they chose to untweep me, could I pop right back, or be forever banned?
Nice post, I was looking for something like this instead of going through manually and doing it. You have to treat twitter like your email list too and cultivate it, I follow everyone, but at the same time, I may cut that out because sometimes there’s too much blatant promotion and I miss the real useful messages, thanks.
Indeed, Terrance. It’s important to ensure your network remains relevant, and websites such as Untweeps.com can help us optimize our followers. There’s little to no point in having somebody follow you if they never pay attention to any of your tweets – and vice versa!
