I object very strongly to intrusive advertising - ads which get in the way of, or distract me from, what I want to do - and I have a low tolerance threshold for such ads. I also get turned off by disguised advertising - such as "infomercials" and tweeps being paid to tweet in favour of products, etc -> the latter are difficult to spot unless you see someone repeating the same message time and again.

In my book most internet advertising is intrusive, and I can't think of a way for twitter to introduce non-intrusive ads.

What will be my reaction to ads on twitter? It depends on what and how. My goodwill towards the service will almost certainly reduce sharply and I will race to the front of the queue for an Adblock equivalent. It's a moot point whether I would reduce my use of twitter. Most of my twitter friends I only know through twitter. I don't know how many friendships would survive a move to another platform (which one - Facebook, Google Wave, a.n. other?) particularly when it comes to the loose 'communities' of tweeps to which I belong.

Twitter needs to make money, certainly. Whether it can do that by pushing out adverts and keep ME as a happy, contented, user is another matter.
