Rob, if you've had a Friendfeed account for a while and been feeding your tweets through that it's a great way to back-search your Twitter archive. With Google you should be able to search everything since Google started parsing the tweets (maybe longer).

When I wrote this article there was no limit on the internal Twitter search but now it's been set to <strong>seven days</strong> to, I believe, limit server strain. Either way, it's incredibly dumb, especially for a company that hypes itself around its search tool. Once again, we remain mystified by bizarre internal decisions that are continue to be made without (it appears) a thought for the ramifications.

I wonder if a deeper search facility will be a feature of the upcoming premium accounts?

This continues to be a big problem for me - what's the point in having (in my case) nearly 2500 tweets if I can't search back beyond the most recent 50-100 of them? The Google search option is not much better than Twitter's.

There was a service that i tried several months ago called Tweetback that would backup your Twitter timeline to an HTML file. Worked pretty well, but I think they went under.
